Make a Difference
Donors like you make outreach services possible
When a person is discharged from the hospital, they may still need support managing their health. That’s why your gift is helping expand the Community Paramedicine Program. Now, more patients who struggle to access traditional health care services have options. Donors like you are crucial to providing outreach services like community paramedicine. Nancy Douglas is one such patient you’ve helped. For her, community paramedicine was literally life or death.
“Sam has saved my life three times checking on me,” Nancy says of her paramedic Samantha Danley.
Nancy had a heart attack a few years ago. She has COPD and struggles to manage atrial fibrillation and congestive heart failure. She also has chronic high blood pressure, which makes Nancy’s health particularly vulnerable.
Samantha keeps track of Nancy’s heart rate, blood pressure, medications and overall health when she visits. Now, her conditions are well managed. This keeps her out of the hospital and has significantly reduced her calls to 911.
For Nancy, who is nearly 90 years old, visits from Sam give her peace of mind. They also provide her with much-needed social support as well.
“I’m in the house a lot, and just her coming and us conversing, it makes a big difference,” Nancy says. “We sometimes talk about her children. She has become a friend.”
Nancy is grateful that your generosity helps make these visits possible.
“Please donate to the program because it is a good thing,” she says. “Oh my goodness, you just wouldn’t believe it. I’m so grateful because it is just really terrific.”
