As she prepared for the birth of her twins, Kayleen Wiant needed extra help. Because of your gift, she was connected with birth doula Alayzia Ponder through the Mercy Health — Springfield Regional Medical Center Birth Center’s doula program.

“I’d heard of a doula but never really knew how they could support me,” Kayleen says. “I didn’t know about resource guides, questions, concerns or any type of emotional support. Alayzia’s energy was so genuine that I could ask her any question without feeling like a burden, stupid or confused.”

Birth doulas assist expectant mothers throughout pregnancy. They assist with prenatal care, labor and postnatal follow-ups with information and advocacy. Kayleen says having access to a doula made a huge difference. Both her emotional and physical well-being during her pregnancy improved.

“Words could not describe how thankful I am someone was there with me by my side,” she says. “She supported me every single step of the way when it came to my C-section with the twins. I was beyond scared, anxious and nervous. But she distracted me, comforted me and supported me step-by-step.”
