Renee Duncan lives about 30 minutes outside Suffolk. For her, the Bon Secours Care-A-Van has been nothing short of lifechanging. She’s one of many in the region who don’t qualify for Medicaid but still can’t get insurance. Your gift helps bridge that gap. 

“I make too much money to get help, and then I don’t make enough to afford insurance,” she says. “The Care-A Van has afforded me health care. I wouldn’t have it otherwise.” 

Renee relies on the Care-A-Van for regular prescriptions, blood pressure management, pap smears, mammograms and more. When she tore her Achilles tendon, the team even helped refer her to a surgeon who repaired it and helped with her recovery — all with no out-of-pocket costs. 

“I just don’t know what I would have done without them,” she says. “I’m a whole different person because I can walk now without pain.” 

Beyond emergencies, Renee values the preventive care and day-to-day support the Care-A-Van brings to rural areas. 

“They refill my prescriptions and give me coupons if it’s a medication I really can’t afford,” she says. “They are so friendly and so nice, and they don’t make me feel like I’m unworthy because I need their help.” 

She is also deeply grateful to the donors who make the service possible. 

“Your donations are giving people like me the opportunity for health care, which is priceless,” she says. “Without your help, I couldn’t be healthy because things would go undiagnosed. Prevention is everything.” 

Renee is so thankful the Care-A-Van expanded into Suffolk “It’s so convenient,” she says. “It’s changed my life for the better.”
