Cancer patients like Tom receive the best care, thanks to you
Retired engineer Tom Fiorille sees God’s hand in the circumstances that led him to find lifesaving care at Mercy Health — St. Rita’s Cancer Center. Your gift to support cancer services is part of his story.
“I wish I could personally meet the donors and thank them for giving to the Foundation. Their gifts support the cancer center and the hospital,” Tom says. “God bless them for being so caring.”
A chemical engineer, Tom spent more than 30 years in the aerospace industry. He lived in California and expected to stay there when he retired. But in late 2024, his daughter faced an unexpected health issue.
Tom and his wife sold their house and moved to Ohio without a second thought.
Tom’s new family doctor took one look at him and knew something wasn’t right. She scheduled an MRI that revealed stage four prostate cancer. Tom was immediately referred to the Cancer Center. He began a series of photon treatments that have successfully eliminated the cancer.
“The caregivers are angels,” Tom says. “They gave me courage and gave me strength to go through all of this, and I love them. They saved my life.”
Tom is grateful not only for the doctors and nurses, but also the physician’s assistants, interns, and social workers — everyone at Mercy Health. And he’s thankful for donors like you.
“In all my life, wherever I went, the care I’ve received here at Mercy Health is hands down the best,” Tom says. “I’ve never been treated so kindly.”
