Mercy Health - Lima, OH

You helped Rayce make a full recovery from a brain injury after a motorcycle accident

Rayce Hooper, a young white man with brown hair and beard, shows off a large scar under his collarbone.

Rayce Hooper’s life changed in an instant when he had a serious motorcycle accident that resulted in numerous injuries, including a traumatic brain injury.

With your help, he is getting back to his old life.

“I had a third-degree concussion. Many people with that kind of injury do not make a full recovery, but I have.”

He credits a large part of that recovery to the help he received from Neuro Rehabilitation services as both an inpatient at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center and from outpatient therapy services.

“There was a lot of cognitive therapy, as well as speech therapy,” he says. “At first it all seemed childish—simple addition and subtraction—but I know now how necessary it was.”

“The memory work was harder. It was October, but I thought it was March. But now that I’ve completed the therapy, I’m 100 percent cognitively cleared.”

The 20-year-old is looking forward to getting back to work, thanks to your gift. He’s also getting back to some of his hobbies, including working on cars and playing guitar. “The guitar is slowly coming back,” he says. “I’m able to play a little bit, and it’s good therapy.”

Rayce wants you to know how much he appreciates your contribution, which makes sure therapy services are available.

“Thank you! Without your support of those rehabilitation services, I would not be the same person I was before the accident.”
