Your gift is helping veterans like Robert manage PTSD

As a combat veteran, Robert Seitzer knows about trauma and the impact it can have on a person. He’s experienced it personally. He has also seen it with other veterans that he knows. Through your gift, you provide support to those who sacrificed for us.

“When I got out of the military in 1995, they didn’t have support like they do now,” Robert says. “I had been through quite a bit. I didn’t even realize that I had PTSD.”

Post-traumatic stress disorder can affect anyone. It’s common among veterans like Robert who were wounded in combat. Left untreated, it can become debilitating. And sadly, it often does. It might be due to lack of resources, distance from the VA or even a sense that what happened to them was merely part of their service.

“I volunteered for this,” Robert says. “Some people just have things happen to them. PTSD is not just for veterans. It’s for everybody. Trauma is trauma.”

Robert couldn’t find many services to help him 30 years ago. There wasn’t nearly as much understanding of PTSD then. But there is now, and there are ways to help. Your gift to Mercy Health Behavioral and Mental Health Services does that. You help connect the community to resources, education and mental health care. Robert is grateful to have your support.

“I think it’s really important that we have something in our community that we can reach out to,” he says. “It feels great knowing that someone out there is ready to support you.”
