Why I give: I support the ministry and give to the foundation to help others

As the director of the spiritual care department at Mercy Health - St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Darrell Cousino has a big job. Spiritual care represents one-third of the Mercy Health mission, right alongside caring for the body and the mind.

“We are the folks in the hospital that are encouraging, teaching and helping our staff to connect their own spirituality to their day-to-day work," he says. "That helps foster an environment of trust, support and healing."

In addition to actively helping fellow associates, Darrell also supports Mercy Health Foundation - Greater Toledo as a Power Hour donor. He gives because of the support Mercy Health gave him to help him grow.

"I started with Mercy Health in 2011 as an on-call chaplain. I discovered a ministry, a team and a community that really cares about their associates," he says.

“It’s important to me to be able to give back and pay it forward. Plus, being able to just donate an hour a paycheck made it really easy.”
