Dr. Chris Zona was a physician at St. Luke’s Hospital before it was acquired by Mercy Health. Today, he is the director of Mercy Health - St. Luke’s Family Medicine Residency, where he continues to care for his patients. He and his wife, Barbara, are also new donors to the Mercy Health Foundation Greater Toledo.

“We wholeheartedly support them because they are an extension of showing compassion of Jesus Christ to others,” says Dr. Zona. “Mercy Health brings health and well-being, especially for those who have greater needs.”

Faith is very important to the Zonas. Dr. Zona is quick to point out that monetary gifts are just part of the way they support the Foundation. They also support it through prayer, something he knows Mercy Health also values.

“The first thing that stood out to me what that all meetings begin with prayer,” says Dr. Zona. “And then I saw how respectfully physicians and medical staff are treated and appreciated.”

But as a physician first and foremost, Dr. Zona is most impressed by the quality of care his patients receive.

“I saw right away that Mercy Health really cares. They research ways to help patients so they could heal. They supply resources that patients need, especially to those who otherwise would not get care. In other words, they treat patients with human dignity.”
