Make a Difference
Why I Give: To help parents stay connected when they can’t be there
For Dr. Alice Higdon and her husband J.T. Skinner, supporting NICU cameras is deeply personal. Their youngest son, James, spent 11 days in the neonatal intensive care unit. They experienced firsthand how difficult it is to be separated from a newborn.
“Being away from my baby was so hard,” she says. “If I could have opened my phone in the middle of the night and seen him, it would have made all the difference.”
That experience inspired the pair to support a new project to install infant monitoring cameras in the NICU. Parents are now able to check on their newborns whenever they can’t be at their bedside.
As both a physician and a mother, Dr. Higdon believes donor support helps elevate patient care in meaningful ways.
“The Foundation takes exceptional NICU care and makes it even better,” she says. “It raises the bar for patients and families when they need it most.”
