There came a day when John and Jane Castelvecchi’s children decided that they no longer needed Christmas gifts from their parents. So, instead, the family decided to give back to their community. They turned to Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation to endow a nursing scholarship in honor of Jane’s mother, a former St. Mary’s Hospital nurse. 

“Our hope is that the scholarship will provide tuition assistance to further nurses’ education,” says John. “Students at the Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing are typically second-degree students. As a result, they do not have access to any other financial aid.” 

The scholarship is already paying dividends for caregivers in their community. The Castelvecchis recently experienced this firsthand. 

“John was hospitalized and his nurse recognized the name. She asked if we were the donors that provided the scholarship she was awarded,” Jane says. “It was a wonderful experience to see how our donation helped with the education of a caregiver.”
