Giving back to Mercy Health is a way for Harold Hempfling to thank the people who helped him through one of the most difficult times of his life. After he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, he received treatment and a stem cell transplant. That experience inspired him to give back. 

“From the beginning, everything worked like clockwork,” Harold says. “The care was perfect.” 

Harold credits his physicians, nurses and care team for his successful outcome. They answered every question, anticipated his needs and helped him recover faster than expected. Their compassion convinced him he wanted to give back.  

“Anybody that works this hard for their patients deserves my support,” he says. 

Harold now directs his gifts to oncology, cellular therapy and the Greatest Needs Fund so others can benefit from the same level of care. 

“We all know that life comes with no guarantees,” he says. “But I know these gifts are being used in the best possible way to help people.”
