Sam is swinging for the fences, thanks to you

Baseball is much more than a game for Sam Dwenger. It’s a chance to be part of a team and make memories. Known affectionately as “Grand Slam Sam,” the 8-year-old has a rare type of dwarfism. Thanks to you, he has found a place where his love of baseball can shine without accessibility or safety concerns blocking the plate.

“Watching him thrive in ways we once thought were out of reach means everything to us,” says Sam’s mom Liz Dwenger.

When Liz and Jim Dwenger learned about the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields, they knew they had found something special. Here, their son could safely play baseball using his walker. The accessible field removes barriers that can make other sports venues difficult or even dangerous.

Your generosity provides Mercy Health medical professionals and certified athletic trainers. They are available during games to provide care if an injury or medical need arises. For Liz and Jim, knowing trained medical staff are nearby offers reassurance. It lets them relax and cheer Sam on from the stands.

“At the ballpark, we don’t have to worry about accessibility or safety,” says Liz. “We just get to watch our all-stars do what they love.”

For the Dwenger family, the Miracle League is a field of dreams. There are no exclusions and no limits.

“Your gift helps create a place where kids like Sam can safely have fun doing what they love. Here, parents can simply enjoy watching their child shine,” says Liz. “We’re incredibly grateful.”
