A quick stop at a mobile mammography screening event became a lifesaver for Kendra Strickland. She received a mammogram inside the mobile van, made possible by donors like you. That screening revealed breast cancer. Kendra believes the early diagnosis saved her life.

“Five minutes changed my life,” she says. “If I hadn’t gotten that screening, I honestly don’t know if I’d still be here.”

“Breast Birthday Ever” began after a local doctor, Dr. Alaba Robinson, was diagnosed with breast cancer on her birthday. She started the event to encourage women to get screened. Each year, Mercy Health’s mobile mammography vans bring care closer to home. They make screenings easy, comfortable and welcoming.

Just days after her screening, Kendra got a phone call. Doctors found something concerning. A biopsy confirmed breast cancer. Because it
was found early, Kendra had surgery before the cancer could spread. Today, years later, she is cancer-free.

Kendra says the caring atmosphere and easy access made all the difference. It also inspired her to encourage other women, especially those in underserved communities, to get screened.

“It’s not just a mammography van,” Kendra says. “It’s access, compassion and a chance to save lives before it’s too late. What donors are doing is truly saving lives and saving families. I will always be grateful for that screening and the people who made it possible.”
