Your gift gave Kathy a lift
Severe depression is a debilitating condition that can bring a patient’s life to a standstill. For Kathy, it confined her to her home for four months. You helped her emerge triumphant.
“I was very depressed,” Kathy recalls. “At times I was almost catatonic.”
Your gift to the Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation helped purchase a van to transport patients like Kathy. If not for it, she may have missed her important medical appointments with her behavioral care team at Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital.
Kathy is grateful that your donations made the van possible. She is now less likely to miss her appointments — a critical component of her ongoing care. It has helped her gain control of her health, a move that was lifesaving for her.
“This place stabilized me when I was in really bad condition,” she says. “They kept working with me. Nobody gave up on me. Little by little, I started to get better.”
Suzanne Souders, a licensed clinical social worker at Rappahannock General, knows that reliable transportation can be key to wellness.
“The van helps patients with consistency. They do best with regular treatment. Not having access to reliable transportation can derail their progress,” she says.
Suzanne has seen the van make a huge difference for many patients, including Kathy.
“Kathy’s an amazing success story,” Suzanne says. “Her willingness to do the work has been invaluable and what has gotten her over the top. Her desire to get healthy, coupled with consistent, reliable transportation, has gotten her where she is today.”
