Your Gift Gave Mercy Health Nurses a Helping Hand Named Hercules
One of the many physical challenges of nursing is repositioning patients. A few years ago, your generosity provided a strong helping hand named Hercules. For Corey Baldridge, a Mercy Health nurse, it's been a game changer.
"Donations like the Hercules Patient Repositioner are monumental to patient care," Corey says. "Pulling patients up in bed is a physical motion and should always be a two-person job. I feel like these donations improve our patients' and nurses' quality of life."
The Hercules Patient Repositioner is a breakthrough in safe patient handling technology. With Hercules, one caregiver can safely boost a patient in bed within seconds. The patient lies on a sheet pulled by an easy-to-use drive, moving them up in bed with the simple push of a button. Hercules can reposition patients up to 750 pounds, helping reduce injuries. It also preserves the patient's dignity and protects the caregiver's back.
"Hercules makes my job more enjoyable, and honestly, my back is not as bad as before we started using the machines," he says. "Everyone loves Hercules. Plus, patients think it's a magic trick the first time we pull them up with it."
Corey is grateful to donors for helping to reduce nursing fatigue.
"I would like to say a huge thank you to those who had invested in me, the nurses and the nurse's aides. Our backs, arms and necks have all felt spectacular compared to how they used to. As a result, I can offer more of myself both at work and at home."
