Mercy Health expands access to screenings by partnering with Toledo Lucas County Public Library system
The Mobile Mammography Van, supported by Mercy Health Foundation Greater Toledo donors, plans to visit libraries throughout 2025
For busy women, it can be hard to find time for their annual mammogram. Gaps in transportation or medical insurance only exacerbate the problem. Thanks to Mercy Health Foundation Greater Toledo donors, the Mobile Mammography Van helps fill those gaps.
Operating five days a week for up to 10 hours a day, the van visits neighborhoods across the Toledo metro area. Mobile services like these embody the mission of Mercy Health, making it easy to access quality care.
Now, a new program with the Toledo Lucas County Public Library system is making it easier than ever. On special dates, the Mobile Mammography Van will park at a designated library branch from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Equipped with state-of-the-art imaging technology, the van offers the most accurate results. Doctor referrals aren't necessary and appointments are available for women over 40. Financial aid is available for those who qualify.
When considering where to expand, libraries were an easy choice. Public library systems offer many locations, often close to schools and churches. They also host community events and activities on a frequent basis. In other words, they tend to attract plenty of foot traffic, which makes them ideal to offer screenings from. Appointments on the Mobile Mammography Van only take 15-20 minutes—a short amount of time to change a life.
When it's more convenient to get screenings, more women get them. The Mobile Mammography Van is improving health outcomes all across northwest Ohio, thanks to our donors. Consider making a gift today to continue advancing women's health services in our communities.
