Nobody has a plan prior to being diagnosed with cancer. It’s usually the farthest thing from anyone’s mind. But thanks to donor support of cancer services in Greater Toledo, Kristin Baldeschwiler was able to receive specialized cancer care from the health care provider she knows and trusts.

“When I was diagnosed, I was referred to Mercy Health — Perrysburg Cancer Center,” she says. “I’ve had Mercy Health providers for many years. However, this was the first time I needed anything more than an outpatient visit in the system.”

What she found was compassionate care, very conveniently located thanks to donor support.

“I appreciated the welcoming and encouraging atmosphere created by all the staff at the Cancer Center,” Kristin says. “I was also grateful to have so much support and so many resources available in one location. The Cancer Center is a tremendous asset to cancer patients, their caregivers, and the community at large.”

Kristin celebrated her last chemotherapy treatment in June. She remains thankful for the care she received.

“As simple as it may sound, excellent patient care begins with caring for the patient,” she says. “That is why it is so important to make sure care facilities have the best clinical staff, the best support staff, and the best resources available. Donors do that for the Perrysburg Cancer Center.”

Kristin is counting on donor support to continue — if not for her, for others like her.

“A cancer diagnosis is terrifying even for the bravest of souls. And sadly, cancer is ubiquitous. In our lifetime, it will leave none of us unaffected.”
