Patricia Calder’s Story
A small change to Patricia’s life insurance policy means she can make a big impact for her community
As a two-time breast cancer survivor, Patricia Calder is grateful for donors who support the hospital so she could get cancer treatments that saved her life. Now she is intent on paying it forward for others.
She discussed her wishes with a Foundation team member and discovered several planned giving options that allow her to support the Foundation after her lifetime. She added the Foundation to her will and designated the Foundation as the beneficiary of her fully paid life insurance policy simply by completing a form.
“You don’t have to be a millionaire. Everyone who works probably has some kind of retirement account or life insurance. But they don’t have any idea that it can benefit somebody else so easily.”
“I donate to the Foundation as often as I can now. But someday, when I’m no longer here, I want to continue helping the hospital and my community the way that others' gifts have helped me and many friends of mine,” Patricia says.
“I didn’t have to pay anything out of pocket to make my planned gift,” Patricia explains. “By making a small change, I can make a difference in someone’s life long after I’m gone. When I learned what I could do, it was kind of an ‘aha’ moment.”
