KaZonté’s work with victims of violent crime at the Trauma Recovery Center is possible thanks to you
Thanks to gifts from donors like you, KaZonté Allen and her colleagues can provide specialized care in their community to those who really need it. KaZonté is a social worker and therapist at the Mercy Health – Toledo Trauma Recovery Center (TRC). There, she helps survivors of traumatic events heal.
“The TRC offers case management, victim advocacy and therapy services. Most of our patients are victims of domestic violence, followed by adult assault cases.”
TRC is a federally funded service that helps victims who have experienced trauma in the last three years. Many patients, however, fall outside that narrow definition. Donations are needed to help everyone who doesn't match the federal qualifications. Trauma can affect people for years, even decades, if left untreated. By providing care to people who have suffered trauma more than three years ago, the TRC serves all who need help.
And your support goes beyond treatment. The TRC team works to prevent trauma in the first place, with training from the Best Life Curriculum. KaZonté and her peers seek to prevent childhood trafficking through education.
“Because of donors’ generosity, the TRC has been able to bring education and awareness to hundreds of students in our community. These life skills can reduce the likelihood of them becoming victims,” KaZonté says. “Our children are our future, and it is so important to keep them safe.”
