Desirea is a Mercy Health Foundation Power Hour donor because of the hospice nurses who cared for her family
Mercy Health angels touched Desirea Johnson’s life many years ago, and now, that experience guides her decision to donate to Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley.
The 29-year-old medical laboratory technician became a Power Hour donor as a result of Mercy Health - Hospice of the Valley nurses who provided support to her family as they cared for her maternal grandmother.
“They were angels to us. This was one of my ways to say thank you after all this time.”
“She did three rounds of chemo treatments, but couldn’t do it,” Desirea recalls. “She was small; barely 120 pounds wet.”
“The nurses explained to us what was going on, the dying process,” she says. That information, as hard as it was to hear, was important for Desirea's family.
“I like the idea that Mercy is trying to help everybody, because if we can help one community at a time, it can make the world a little bit better place.”
