When she was first told she had breast cancer, Kathy Koepp went to her car and cried. She felt completely overwhelmed.

But because of donors, Kathy was able to connect with Cathy Fior, a nurse navigator with Mercy Health - Lorain Hospital. She became the guide Kathy needed to navigate the long and complicated treatment plan.

“Cathy took me under her wing on day one,” Kathy says. “She walked me through the entire process of what was about to happen. Cancer is a terrible thing, and it has been a difficult treatment. But I feel like an angel came into my life when I most needed help.”

“My brain was full. Having someone to explain everything and check on me, to say nothing of lining up all of my appointments, was amazing.”

She wants donors to know how grateful she is for the nurse navigator service.

“I can’t say how much I appreciate what donors are doing to make this program available,” Kathy says. “Having this service in Lorain County is huge. Being close to home where I didn’t have to miss so much work, and knowing we have this kind of quality care right here is so important. What is happening in our own backyard is top notch. Thank you!”
