New medical residency program recruits talented physicians to Lorain

A donation to Graduate Medical Education is an investment in the health care you and your family will depend on in the years ahead

An effort to raise more than $1 million is under way to launch a new Graduate Medical Education (GME) medical residency program at Mercy Health in Lorain. The GME residency provides additional training for physicians after medical school, allowing them to specialize and practice independently.

We need your help. The future of health care in Lorain depends on donor support for the GME program and facility.

Donations for Graduate Medical Education will provide funding for:

  • Renovations and rent expenses for the facility where the GME program will operate
  • Furnishings, equipment and the latest medical technology for the GME facility
  • Classrooms, skills lab and administrative spaces for the program

The GME program will provide residents with experiential real-life learning from the most skilled and seasoned physicians in Lorain at Mercy Health. In turn, these new doctors will be better prepared when they start practicing independently and caring for their own patients.

Outcomes from other GME programs show that a number of residents choose to stay in the community to start their medical careers. Recruiting future doctors to Lorain helps prevent the physician shortages other communities face and ensures our community will have doctors in specialties that meet the needs of Lorain's residents for many years to come.

Pledge your support.

Gifts of any amount are appreciated and will help Mercy Health Foundation Lorain reach our goal of raising more than $1 million for the Graduate Medical Education program.

Gift commitments of at least $10,000 can be pledged over a period of up to five years, with installments paid annually or even quarterly. Non-cash assets can be contributed, such as gifts of stocks, bonds, real estate, life insurance policies and other options.

A number of naming opportunities are available and provide meaningful recognition of the program's most generous donors. Naming recognition signage can even include a tribute message in honor or memory of someone special.
