Nourish West Baltimore
Donate to combat the effects of living in a food desert
Many residents of West Baltimore struggle to get fresh, healthy food
You can help people improve their nutrition by supporting our Food Access program
When a lower-income area has few or no options for affordable, nutritious food, it's a "food desert." And, unfortunately, West Baltimore has such areas. Residents who live in food deserts may not have a grocery store anywhere nearby. Or they may rely on public transit, making it hard to carry bags—especially for those with limited mobility. Whatever the reason, the outcome is the same: people who are deprived of healthy choices.
Bon Secours Baltimore Foundation is trying to change that here in West Baltimore. But we need your help!
With contributions from donors and grants, the Foundation supports Bon Secours Community Works' Urban Farm. Located at 1800 W. Fayette Street, the Urban Farm grows seasonal crops all year long. Things like beets, spinach, tomatoes, lettuce and more. It produces hundreds of pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables on a regular basis. And its harvests sustain a year-round food box program. In this way, the Urban Farm serves roughly 85 families in West Baltimore, who wouldn't have enough healthy food to eat otherwise.
And food boxes are not the only thing distributed. The Food Access program also provides nutrition education and cooking workshops. The goal is to teach healthy eating habits and inspire creative recipes that last a lifetime. When you donate to Food Access, you support an ecosystem that nourishes its community from seed to full belly. Donations are tax-deductible and gifts of any size make a difference.
