Mercy Health Foundation's Panerathon celebrated a historic year
The popular event benefits Mercy Health - Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center
Everyone in the Mahoning Valley knows that August means it's time for Panerathon! Each year, the 10K/2 mile walk/run raises funds for the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center (JACBCC) at Mercy Health - St. Elizabeth Hospital. The JACBCC is the first, and only, comprehensive breast care center in eastern Ohio. It's a life-saving resource that makes a big impact on the surrounding communities. And on August 25, people flooded the streets of downtown Youngstown in support of it.
This year marked a historic milestone for the event, celebrating 15 years. More than 630 people crossed the Panerathon finish line. Their participation provides life-saving breast cancer care and resources for the whole Mahoning Valley.
Since the inaugural Panerathon, it's raised more than $4.5 million for services at the JACBCC. Previous funds have purchased a mobile mammography unit that visits 24 sites located throughout the tri-county area.
It's always a fantastic day for a great cause, close to the hearts of many. Be sure to stay tuned for information about next year's Panerathon!
