Mercy Health - Lorain, OH

Thanks to donors, music therapy was available to Ethelia and her family after her medical crisis

It was a frightening time for the Bryant family when their mother Ethelia was rushed to Mercy Health - Lorain Hospital unable to breath.

“They decided that she needed to have a pacemaker,” remembers her daughter, Latrice. "We had no knowledge of her having any heart issues. It was devastating.”

But gifts from donors like you provided comfort. As Ethelia recovered with her family gathered around her, the Bryants got a most welcome surprise—a visit from a clinical music therapist.

“She asked if I liked music. I told her that I loved gospel music and had been in the choir since I was young,” says Ethelia.

Music therapy creates an improved health environment for patients. In Lorain, it is supported by your generous donation to the Mercy Health Foundation.

“When my therapist was singing about laying burdens down by the riverside with me, I felt lifted like when I am in church. I hear those songs and I feel revived.”

“My mom had just had a procedure and there she was patting her seat, clapping her hands and bobbing her head to the music,” says Latrice. “To see the joy on her face was just wonderful.”

The Bryants are thankful for the comfort music therapy provided during a trying time.

“I think music therapy is a medication for the soul,” Latrice says. “It was important for my mom but also us as her caretakers and family. Listening to them sing together truly brought joy to my heart.”

“To all the donors who support this, our family thanks you.”
