Ann Belk’s Story

Make an Impact

Bon Secours - Richmond, VA

Ann gives because patients need their loved ones with them while they are sick

The reason Ann Belk and her family give to Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation is simple.

“In 2006 our oldest daughter, Molly, had a hemorrhagic stroke and St. Mary’s saved her life,” Ann says.

The team at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital would save Molly’s life during two more strokes. And each time, Ann and her family would stay by Molly’s side.

“We are from Richmond so we could go home to rest and clean up. But we saw people there with loved ones who did not have that opportunity,” she says. “We were always so struck by that.”

“Those families were in situations like ours but had no place to be other than the waiting room.”

When the Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House was being built, the Belk family and Molly’s friends created “For the Love of Molly,” a foundation in Molly’s honor, and dedicated a room in the Guest House.

“I know how important it was to have the support of my family when I was fighting in the hospital and trying to get well. Patients need their loved ones to stay strong,” Molly says.
