Donor support for hospice care brought Connie some comfort during her husband's final days

Connie and Wayne Schneider fought Wayne’s cancer together three times. When it returned a fourth time, it became clear that they would not win the fight. Connie set aside her life to be a full-time caregiver for her husband in his final days.

“He came first,” Connie says. “I’m not saying it was always easy being the caregiver, but I didn’t want it any other way.”

Because of your gift to hospice services, Connie didn’t have to do it alone.

“Mercy Health Hospice always put our needs first—Wayne’s and mine. They always asked how I was doing, how I was coping and if I needed anything. That gave me a lot of reassurance and comfort.”

Your gift gave Connie the peace of mind that even when the caregivers were not in their home with her, they were always only a call away.

“I felt like they were a safety net all the way around us for anything we needed,” she says. “I always knew that all I had to do was pick up the phone.”

Connie is grateful that your donations and support of hospice gave her their final days together in the comfort of the home they made together.

“You have no idea the comfort that I had in having him here. Without hospice, I couldn’t have done that and shared in his care,” she says.

“I’d like to thank everyone who donates to hospice.”
