Larry and Sandy give to honor a shared loss
When Douglas Brueshaber lost his battle with lymphoma, his parents Larry and Sandy knew his care team had fought heroically for their son. And while they knew that many families might disconnect from the hospital and staff, they realized that the caregivers they had gotten to know so well were suffering their own kind of loss.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that Doug’s death was a loss for all of them,” Sandy said.
Two years after Doug’s death, a chance encounter with his son’s doctor confirmed what Larry felt.
“He recognized me immediately as Doug’s dad,” Larry said.
“For the lead oncologist to look at me after all that time, and know me, that was really something. That’s when I really knew that the staff there takes it personally.”
Larry and Sandy began showing their support for that care team through regular contributions to the The Jewish Hospital - Mercy Health Cincinnati Cancer and Cellular Therapy Center.
