In 2012, Tim Callahan lay in the coronary care unit at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center recovering from a heart attack. His worries went far beyond his health. He was between jobs, his health insurance had lapsed and he didn’t know how he would pay the medical bill.

Then Tim learned that the Bon Secours Hampton Roads Foundation was willing to help him cover the costs.

“I didn’t know about the Foundation until they notified me they wanted to help,” he says.

Today, Tim works as an accountant and donates annually to the Foundation’s Greatest Need Fund. He wants to help others in similar circumstances.

“I’ll continue to do so as long as I’m on this side of the ground,” he says. “I believe in paying it back.”

Tim credits his recovery to the exemplary care he received at Maryview and the grace of God.

“God ultimately saved me,” Tim says. “Doctors fix, and God heals.”
