Retired nurse Rebecca Pulongbarit and her husband Crispin support the Bon Secours Hampton Roads Foundation for a simple reason. It’s how they continue the mission of compassionate care that define Rebecca’s 30-year career.

“Being a nurse, I’m aware some patients don’t have health insurance,” Rebecca says. “When I was working, we gave to the Foundation. After retiring, we decided to continue as a continuation of my service. I still consider myself a nurse, of course. Once a nurse, you’re always a nurse.”

The Pulongbarits donate to the Greatest Need fund, which allows the Foundation to respond to pressing needs as they arise. Rebecca is also passionate about supporting the Care-A-Van. The mobile health clinic offers primary care services to uninsured adults and children.

“The Care-A-Van is wonderful,” says Rebecca.

Rebecca worked in oncology and credits Crispin with providing support that helped her be a great nurse in an emotionally demanding field. Today they enjoy caring for their grandchildren, gardening and visiting their native Philippines.
