Jihyun Kim is the lead cardiac sonographer at Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital. She spends her days looking at the hearts of patients. Thanks to donors, they’ve never looked better.

“I’m grateful we got new ultrasound machines,” Jihyun says. “It makes my job easier, and it helps us take care of the patient. It’s great because the color of the image is really clear.”

Donor support enabled Mary Immaculate to upgrade its cardiovascular ultrasound equipment. Jihyun now operates the state-of-the-art GE Healthcare Vivid™ E95. This ultrasound machine is widely regarded as the benchmark of the field.

“Everything has improved,” she says. “Not only does the new machine offer better image quality, but it has advanced 4D capability.”

The machine’s new capabilities proved to be crucial almost immediately.

“We had a patient come to us from the ER with shortness of breath. They asked if we could see if the patient’s heart was strained. They suspected pulmonary embolism,” Jihyun says. “Because the E95 could provide such clear images, the hospital team gave the patient the correct treatment without delay. We later learned that the patient did indeed have a pulmonary embolism.”

Jihyun is grateful for donor support. She knows that it helps her provide better care to her patients. Because she sees the good donating does for her hospital, Jihyun also gives to the Foundation.

“I give because it feels good. And that good feeling connects me to others,” she says. “I feel happy when I am being kind.”
