The Russell Family has a legacy of health care in Greenville. Sally Russell’s father was a surgeon at St. Francis Hospital, as was her husband, Dr. H. Earle Russell, Jr. Their son is now a pediatric surgeon.

After Dr. Russell passed away, the Russell family worked with the Bon Secours St. Francis Foundation to establish the Dr. H. Earle Russell, Jr. Physician and Associate Wellness Fund.

“My husband loved everyone who worked at St. Francis,” Sally says.

Sally wanted to do something to support providers. Working in health care can take a toll. The family wanted Dr. Russell’s memory to be synonymous with associate care. His namesake fund provides support through wellness events and policies that strengthen associate culture.

“It’s so important to take care of those health care workers on the front lines,” Sally says. “We should do whatever we can to give them a life balance and mental acuity to deal with what they have to deal with every day.”
