The Campaign for Rappahannock General Hospital expands goal

Campaign hits $15 million goal within a year to fully fund new Emergency Department, hospital entrance and café.

In April 2021, a $15 million fundraising campaign was launched by Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation. The campaign supports much-needed enhancements, renovations and expansion of Rappahannock General Hospital in the Northern Neck area of Virginia. Within only one year, and a year ahead of schedule, donations have topped the $15 million goal and construction of Phase One projects is being fully funded by donors to the campaign. Phase One projects include:

• Renovate and expand Emergency Department, including private patient rooms (completion in 2023)
• Build a new, more convenient front entrance to the hospital (completed)
• Renovate and modernize lobby, registration and check-in area and surrounding waiting rooms (completed)
• Build a new kitchen and café (completed)

The Campaign for Rappahannock General Hospital has been supported by hundreds of donors making gifts, large and small. The campaign saw an early boost with two sizeable estate gifts from Marvin Camp and Faye Hannum, two individuals who were grateful for the care they and their families had received at Rappahannock General Hospital over the years. 

Because of excitement within the community and donors' generosity, the campaign committee has increased the campaign's goal to $20 million so that additional projects can be completed at the hospital. The $5 million in extra funding through donations will support Phase Two projects including:

• Renovate and expand the Outpatient Infusion Center
• Renovate the Patient Wing and Behavioral Health Unit
• Build a courtyard garden
• Modernize and refresh the public areas of the hospital

Since extending the campaign goal to $20 million in April 2022, donations exceed $18 million. Campaign committee members and gift officers with Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation continue to meet with individuals and businesses to secure gift commitments for the hospital.
