Mercy Health Foundation Irvine sponsored the Lavender Room, thanks to donor support

The room offers a quiet, peaceful place for hospital workers to take a break

The truth is that caregivers need care, too. And thanks to donors, Mercy Health Foundation Irvine sponsored a Lavender Room at Marcum and Wallace Hospital to do just that. Lavender Rooms are spaces designed to relieve health care associates after tough moments. Calming colors, soft lighting and aromatherapy help soothe stressed-out senses. Photos of nature, live plants and comfy chairs welcome weary workers in.

Lavender Rooms originated with Code Lavender, a program combatting burnout in health care. Code Lavender raises awareness about how health care workers suffer, mentally and emotionally. After a distressing situation, 15 or 20 minutes to decompress can make all the difference. Thus, the Lavender Rooms. Marcum and Wallace Hospital's room will also support Code Lavender events, like meditation sessions.

The Foundation celebrated the opening of the room with a ribbon cutting. Since then, staff have used it to rest, cry, pray and rejuvenate themselves. And they're grateful to the donors who made it possible.

“We give so much of ourselves to others and to our patients, but the Lavender Room lets us take care of us for a little bit. Thank you so much for giving. Even if it seems like a small thing, every little thing really helps.” —Jeanna Angel, Registered Nurse
