The VRT has a greater capacity than ever to treat and care for patients harmed by violence thanks to donor support
Thank you for supporting critical health care services for those affected by violence
On October 25th, 420 guests and sponsors gathered at the Science Museum of Virginia. They dressed to the nines and assembled for a critical cause: the Violence Response Team (VRT). The VRT cares for the most vulnerable in our community—24 hours a day. These forensic nurses and victim services advocates provide care for children and adults who have experienced sexual or physical assault, strangulation or human trafficking.
The 2025 Violence Response Team Gala sought to raise funding for strangulation education. These efforts will include education for law enforcement, EMS, and other community partners who are likely first responders to come in contact with victims of violence, including strangulation.
This year’s keynote speaker was Jim Schmidt, stepfather to Gabby Pettito. Gabby Pettito’s young life was cut short when she was strangled by her fiancé. Jim shared how Gabby’s family is keeping her memory alive and working to ensure nobody else faces a similar fate.
The Foundation hosted a lovely evening for a cause that matters to a great deal of people. And to celebrate and honor the crucial work of the VRT staff. A silent auction featured local art, exquisite jewelry and unique culinary experiences. At the live auction, guests bid on dreamy getaways to Bali, Europe, and the Country Music Awards. They enjoyed fine dining and drinks and danced the night away. All in support of these critical health care services for those affected by violence.
The VRT Gala raised over $385,000 to support the Violence Response Team’s patients, their families, and the VRT staff. Thanks to you, the VRT has a greater capacity to treat and care for patients harmed by violence than ever before.
