Gala proceeds went toward the Violence Response Team's expansion to Southside Medical Center
Supporters like you helped double the team's capacity to serve victims of violence
On October 19, 330 guests and sponsors gathered at the Science Museum of Virginia. They dressed to the nines and assembled for a critical cause: the Violence Response Team (VRT). The VRT cares for the most vulnerable in our community—24 hours a day. The Violence Response Team Gala is an opportunity to recognize the dedicated staff and their work.
This year, the Violence Response Team Gala sought to raise funding for expanding the VRT. This includes a second forensic suite at Southside Medical Center (SMC) to supplement the one at St. Mary's Hospital. The number of violence victims treated at SMC in Petersburg, VA, has increased in recent years. Many patients come in with injuries from intimate partner violence or community violence. The new VRT location is a direct response from Bon Secours to aid these patients. To ensure they get the specific, expert care they need after a traumatic experience. Luckily, this mission resonates with many Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation supporters.
Those compassionate supporters showed up and showed out to the Violence Response Gala. The Foundation hosted a lovely evening for a cause that matters to a great deal of people. And to celebrate and honor the crucial work of the VRT staff. A silent auction featured local art, exquisite jewelry and unique culinary experiences. At the live auction, guests bid on dreamy getaways to Bali, Montenegro and Jackson Hole. They enjoyed fine dining and drinks and danced the night away. All in support of these critical health care services for those affected by violence.
And through ticket sales, sponsors and auctions, the evening raised $300,000! The doors of the new suite at SMC are now open. Thanks to you, the VRT has a greater capacity to treat and care for patients harmed by violence than ever before.
