Construction of a new Cancer Clinic and Outpatient Infusion Center begins

Bon Secours — Richmond, VA
11/22/2024

The project is the latest development in an ongoing Campaign for Rappahannock General Hospital

The forthcoming Cancer Clinic and Outpatient Infusion Center will make comprehensive cancer care more accessible in the Northern Neck

On October 25, Bon Secours leaders and community members broke a wall at Rappahannock General Hospital (RGH). It was a ceremonial breaking, of course! They took up sledgehammers and donned safety goggles with excitement. Together, they kicked off construction of a new cancer clinic and outpatient treatment center (OPIC).

The OPIC is part of a larger Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation campaign to improve and expand RGH. The campaign began in 2021, and since then, many renovations have taken place. The hospital has a new entrance, lobby, reception area, emergency department and café. And now, revamping a vacant building on RGH's campus into an OPIC to serve cancer patients is underway.

A man in a suit playfully wields a sledgehammer at a ceremonial groundbreaking. His colleagues, including hospital staff in scrubs, applaud.

Establishing this OPIC in the Northern Neck is critical for several reasons. For one, it will allow many cancer patients to get treatment close to home. Being near home eases the costs of travel and helps patients feel more comfortable and empowered during a vulnerable time. The renovation also presents the perfect opportunity to modernize equipment and technology. These updates will help RGH to better serve the entire community.

Contributions from the community have made this renovation possible. Donors like you helped reach the initial $15 million campaign goal a year ahead of schedule, in 2022. That stunning generosity allowed us to increase our goal to $20 million. We are so grateful to everyone who has supported this multi-year effort. And there is still time to contribute before the campaign ends on December 31. Funds raised at this point will go toward other expansions and renovations at RGH. These include the inpatient wing and courtyard garden, and many facility-wide modernizations. This is your opportunity to be part of the hospital's transformation. Please consider making a gift today, before the campaign ends.
