About the Violence Response Team
The Violence Response Team is a group of forensic nurses and victim services advocates. They are present at all Bon Secours Richmond hospitals, 24-hours per day. Thanks to donors like you, this specialized team helps victims of:
- Domestic violence
- Intimate partner violence
- Sexual assault
- Physical assault
- Strangulation
- Elder and child abuse/neglect
- Substance-exposed infants
- Human trafficking
- Workplace violence
The Violence Response Team has been a resource for victims of all ages for over 30 years. Established in 1993 as the Forensic Nursing Team, the program changed its name in 2020. The new name reflects expanded services, such as victim advocacy support. Today, the team provides comprehensive and compassionate care for victims including:
- Specialized medical attention and injury identification
- Evidence collection
- Expert witness testimony
- Emotional support
- Victim advocacy and safety planning
- Referrals to community resources and follow-up care
- Education on traumatic effects of violence
