Marvin can stay on top of his health, thanks to donor support
Marvin Hundley enjoyed a long and successful career. He was a quality control professional in South Carolina before corporate downsizing claimed his job. And, it claimed his benefits. But donors were there for him when he needed them most. Their gifts to the Mercy Health Foundation Greater Cincinnati helped him afford his prescription medications.
When Marvin lost his job, he had to move and find other work. He eventually retired fully, but the initial job loss took a toll on his finances. He was living on Social Security retirement benefits and was not yet Medicare eligible.
“At the time I couldn’t afford health insurance,” Marvin says. “There were some medications the doctor prescribed that I simply could not afford.”
Donor gifts help fund the Dispensary of Hope program in Cincinnati. Through the program, Marvin was able to get the medication he needed.
“Before I knew about the Dispensary of Hope, I really thought ‘That’s that,’” he says. “I would have done without and just hoped for the best.”
Donor gifts make it possible for low-income and uninsured patients in our region to access the Dispensary of Hope’s services. The program distributes medications to safety-net clinic patients at significantly reduced costs.
Marvin is very thankful for being able to get his medications. He wants donors to know how important it is to him and others in his position.
“God bless you for helping out folks that really have nowhere else to turn,” Marvin says. “I have extreme gratitude for what they do to keep that program going.”
