Thanks to you, the Smith family got help with bills while David was going through cancer treatments
A cancer diagnosis is always unwelcome, but when you’re 28 years old with a young family, it can be devastating. When David Smith received news that he had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, you helped ease his mind with your support.
“It was a shock,” he said.
“The first thing my wife and I thought about was, how can we afford this? Having a three-year old and an 18-month-old, we didn’t know how we were going to take care of our family and pay for the treatments I needed.”
You stepped up to help the Smith family by supporting the Thomas Epting Faith Fund, which helped pay for David’s treatments, and the Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Care – Oncology/Hematology program that provided mental health counseling for him.
“Being able to talk to a professional has been priceless,” David said. “It really helped me deal with my feelings, but also helped me explain to my son what was happening when I started losing my hair and sometimes couldn’t get up to play.”
He wants you to know how important your contribution has been to his family.
“Thank you,” he said. “As someone who has been through cancer, your generosity has been amazing. On days I did feel good, we could enjoy those moments—all because of donors like you.”
“I really can’t put into words how much weight is taken off your shoulders when you don’t have to worry about affording groceries because you need to pay for cancer treatments.”
