Elaine gives because it’s an honor to serve both Mercy and her community
For Elaine Barth and her late husband, Dick, Mercy Health's Tiffin Hospital is a big part of their lives. Dick served as a hospital trustee, helping to strengthen the hospital and the community. After he passed away, Elaine began her own service to Mercy by volunteering as a valet assistant.
“I know that my husband felt it was an honor for him to serve on that board and when I volunteered, I felt like I was contributing something,” Elaine said.
Not long after she began, Elaine learned of a fundraising drive for the Foundation. She signed up without hesitation.
“I’m retired so I don’t have a big income, but I can do something,” she said. “And what I give, it stays in the area.”
With small, automated bank drafts each month to the Foundation, Elaine’s philanthropy doesn’t cause her any stress.
“I don’t have to remember to send a check. It just makes it easier for me,” she said.
