Thanks to donors, Mary’s family has great care when they need it.
Mary Wright was scared. Her 94-year-old mother, Jean, had a serious eye infection that suddenly got worse. With Jean’s health already fragile from vascular dementia, Mary knew they needed help. And fast.
She called Mason County EMS. They had one clear recommendation: take Jean to the new Mercy Health — Kings Mills Hospital. It was close by and could provide the care she urgently needed. And, without the long wait at other hospitals.
Because of donor support, the emergency team at Kings Mills was ready.
“The doctors are just so caring,” Mary says. “They took good care of her. They understood her dementia and took extra care to help her feel safe and informed.”
Donor gifts made this possible. By supporting Kings Mills Hospital, donors ensured families like Mary and Jean’s could get compassionate, expert care when every moment matters.
“The care we had while we were there was extraordinary,” says Mary. “The compassion shown by everyone, from the registration staff to the doctors, nurses and aides, far exceeded any expectations I could have had. They didn’t treat her like she was a little old lady. It was important to them to help get her fixed. They made me feel like she’s a real human being, not just a number.”
After a CAT scan, Jean was diagnosed with a blocked tear duct. The serious condition could have resulted in eyesight loss. After having surgery to repair her tear duct, Jean has recovered and is doing well. Mary is grateful to know that Kings Mills Hospital will be there for her mom in the future.
“The new hospital is just magnificent,” she says.”
