About the Violence Response Team

Event proceeds support the work and expansion of Bon Secours Violence Response Team. The team has been a critical resource for victims of abuse for 30 years. Established in 1993 as the Forensic Nursing Team, the program changed its name in 2020. The new name reflects expanded services, such as victim advocacy support.

Over the past 30 years, the team has:

  • Served over 3,500 patients who have suffered abuse and violence
  • Performed countless hours of community outreach
  • Given presentations on sexual assault, human trafficking, strangulation, child abuse, elder abuse and interpersonal violence to the community

With your financial support, the Violence Response Team can:

  • Open two additional sites at Richmond Community Hospital and Southside Medical Center, expanding from their single fixed site at St. Mary's Hospital
  • Offer strangulation education to law enforcement, district attorneys and judges to help our community better understand its lethality
  • Focus on community violence in the Petersburg area
  • Serve more community members in their time of great need
